Baking Powder Biscuit Mix

If you live with finicky eaters, this recipe is for you! Ever since my children were little, whenever I chose to serve an entree that could be perceived by kids as “iffy,” like fresh fish for dinner, I’d avoid getting the evil eye by always having these delicious biscuits parked strategically at the table. If you don’t want to fuss with measuring tools and bags of flour on a hectic weekday (which is when we could all use a good biscuit!), use a few minutes on a leisurely weekend or on an unoccupied evening to quickly put together this mix. That way, a fresh batch of tender biscuits is always just minutes away.

  • 14 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

Use a whisk to thoroughly combine all the ingredients in an extra-large mixing bowl and sift this into another large bowl. Whisk again thoroughly, then spoon the mix into a 5-pound capacity canister with a tight-fitting lid. Store the canister on a cool dry pantry shelf. Now you’re ready to use this mix to make some wonderful Scones or Baking Powder Biscuits!

  5. Dear Lauren,
I can’t tell you how excited I am about stumbling onto your television show! It’s very different than other cooking shows. You make it feel very “homey”! I LOVE your kitchen! I plan on watching all of the videos on this site and making MANY of your recipes. It’s my hubby’s birthday today, so I am off to make him Honey Roasted Chicken, Carrots with Walnuts and Figs and Biscuits with your homemade butter that I cannot wait to dive into!! You have a wonderful way about you and I hope I can make my kitchen as warm and inviting as yours seems to be. Keep up the good work! I also LOVE your organized shopping lists! Now I just need a walk in pantry with shelves to hold everything!:)

  6. Thank you so much, Sandy, for your sweet words! I’m so happy that you’re making some of the recipes that have helped me to convey love for a long time… Next year, for your husband’s birthday, I hope you’ll make my celebration ice cream cake–to see how easy it is, go the video section of the site. I also did a step-by-step blog about it..and the recipe is, of course, on the site. You won’t be sorry–trust me. You’ve made me so happy!!

  7. Thank you for your reply, Lauren! I just have to tell you that my husband LOVED the Honey Roast Chicken and the carrots but, you already knew that! I am bringing some chicken to my father tomorrow. My Mom passed away last month, on her 80th birthday… so cooking is a very good distraction for me right now and it helps me to know that my father is eating well every week. I will definitely try your ice cream cake! Thanks again for all you do :)

I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any recommendations?
